Talladega 500 - Talladega Superspeedway

-Qualifying
Jeff Gordon drove the specially painted Pepsi/DuPont Chevy to a 13th place starting spot in Friday's "Jeff Gordon Pole Day" qualifying session. Jeff Gordon Pole Day was pronounced by Talladega Superspeedway in order to commemorate Jeff Gordon's early success. (Pictures of Pole Day ticket and Pepsi car are here.)

Gordon's lap of 52.299 sec was no match for the Dodges, as Dodge cars swept the Top 3 starting spots. Stacy Compton lead the way by grabbing the pole with a lap of 51.801 sec. Compton's team mate Sterling Marlin will start on the outside pole, as Evernham Motorsports driver, Bill Elliott, will start third. Elliott also owns the track record with a speed of greater 212 mph. The Fords of Ricky Craven and Mark Martin round out the top 5, while points leader Dale Jarrett will start sixth.
